Woman dies in fire at coast
A Henties Bay resident, Paula Saunders, died during a fire which tore through the house.
According to sources, Saunders was sleeping in the living room. Her husband was asleep in the bedroom when the fire woke him up.
Saunders’ husband, a teacher in Henties Bay, noticed that the living room was engulfed in flames but the flames were apparently already too high. He could not reach his wife.
Neighbours tried to assist, to no avail.
It was at this point that Saunders allegedly decided to move the car out of the garage for safety reasons.
There was apparently also a fire, in a different room, at the Saunders’ home about two weeks ago.
Very little additional information was available yesterday about the cause of the fire, the deceased and her husband. The police are investigating the incident.
