Erongo will be safe during festive season

Police will be everywhere

Police Commissioner Festus Shilongo announced his special holiday message to citizens, visitors and tourists to the Erongo region during the upcoming festive season.

“I have a very special message for this year’s festive message,” said Police Commissioner Festus Shilongo on Tuesday with a smile. “We will make Erongo safe for everyone and uncomfortable for criminals,” he promised.

Wringing his hands in opposite directions, the commissioner said that the police force will squeeze the criminal’s space tightly this year. “The criminals will truly feel it, they will have no air to breathe.”
Citizens, visitors and tourists can expect the planned (tight lock) from December 1.

“We will deploy neighborhood watches in plain clothing where we think people need protection; we will tolerate no drunkenness; and we will have a close watch over theft, housebreaking, assault and ATM frauds. There will be officers on the streets and on the beaches. We will have moving roadblocks, not at the usual places but they will be there. We even received extra speed cameras, breathalyzers and help of a few more police officers. We will leave no stone unturned.”

According to Shilongo, criminals stand no chance this year. “We made some mistakes last year but I vow that we will not make them again. You will see me on the road, there is no need to hide; we will get you if you are on the other side of the law.”

Shilongo did ask for the help of the public. “Criminals get more aggressive and we ask the public to report crimes timely so that the police can act in time.”

He stressed the issue of drinking and driving again by saying that the public should act subjective and not like objects. “If you intend on consuming alcohol during this holiday season you are urged to do so responsibly, at a right time and place and in moderation. Know your limits and above all, do not drink and drive.” He explained that the police force has to protect drunkards of themselves. “Drunkards are a danger to themselves and if you are caught drinking in public you will receive a fine of N$ 1000.”
